Semjon Davidovitch Aranovith is the author of 20 documentaries and
9 fiction films, ‚great documentary maker‘, ‚the best documentary
maker in the Lenfilm‘. (his documentaries are ‚Nation of the
Earth and Sky‘ (it won Leipzig’s film festival prize), ‚Anna
Akhmatova’s private affair‘ (awarded prizes in the film festivals
at Lyon, San-Francisco, USA), ‚I served in the Stalin’s body-guard
(diplomaed at the Venice film festival), ‚Islands‘ (prizes at
the Russian and Danish film festivals); ‚Torpedo-boats‘ (USSR’s
state premium), ‚Confrontation‘, ‚The year of the dog‘ (‚Silver
Bear‘ and World’s premium at the international film festival
in Berlin). He is the only documantarist on the Lenfilm who was able
to make and what is more importatnt to save video material about A.
Akhmatova’s funerals ( burial service in the Niolskij cathedral and
funerals itself in Komarovo), because the films were seized and wiped
out stright away after the funerals by KGB agents). Every bit of available
documentary material was included into the film: - amateur’s filming
of the A.Akhmatova’s literature secretary Nika Glen in Golitsin (1964);
shots taken in 1964,when she was awarded the Etna-Taormina prize,
an international poetry prize awarded in Italy; - filming of the funerals
( burial service in the Niolskij cathedral and funerals on the Komarovo
cemetry), which S. D. Aranovitch took, and also the following cin-
and photodocuments: pictures of A. Blok’s, V.Majakovskij burial; shots
from feature film of the 20th ‚Young lady and hooligan‘, where
V. Majakovskij was in the role of hooligan;- amateur’s filming made
by one of Pasternak’s friends in the Peredelkino cottage. Memoirs
of Anna Akhmatova are quoted in the film, her descriptions of N. Gumilev,
A. Blok, V. Majakovskij, O. Mandelshtam, M. Tsvetaeva, B. Pasternak,
N. Punin and A. Solzhenitsin, memoirs of L. K. Chukovskaja devoted
to A. Akhmatova, L. Gumilev’s letters to mother from the stalin’s
concentration camps.

It is a film about the opening of Anna Akhmatova Memorial Museum in
The Fountain House (Fontanka Embankment, 34) in St. Petersburg. You can
watch episodes shot on the day when the museum was opened; an interview
with N. I. Popova, a director, talking about Akhmatova’s personal
things and her contemporaries’ and friends’ things; an interview with
E. G. Etkind, a literary critic and interpreter, Anna Akhmatova’s
friend; an interview with the researcher of Akhmatova’s life Mikhail
Krasin talking about A. I. Gumilyova’s house in Slepnyovo (Tverskaya
region) where Akhmatova spent every summer since 1911 till 1917 (about
the fate of this house in Soviet times and its condition nowadays);
an interview with V. P. Astapov talking about his acquaintance with
Akhmatova and his work upon the poet’s sculptural portrait.

about the only Akhmatova’s meeting with Tsvetaeva in June, 1941 in
Moscow not long before the Second World War.

This is a computer movie, created by contributors of Anna Akhmatova’s
museum at the Akhmatova Museum at The Fountain House by the help of
the studio ‚Mart-Multimedia‘. Except for the story of Sheremetjev
palace (The Fountain house) and daily routine of its’ inhabitants
(first of all Anna Akhmatova) the image of the Sheremetjev Palace,
one of the magnificent palaces of Saint-Petersburg, is recreated as
well as atmosphere of home and garden, accurately saved up to now.
All this made possible that past and future, history and poetry are
met there.

The literary critic and interpreter Vladimir Sergeyevich Muravyov
who was Akhmatova’s friend and interlocutor in 1960s is talking about
the poet with the scientific consultant of the museum O. E. Rubinchik.

place during celebration of Chrostmas in Venice. J. Brodsky tells about
his view of Venice, its’ history, recites verse about Venice and Petersburg,

who was the manager of the Gugenhaim museum in Venice. They were talking
about russian and western culture, about its’ dialog and interosculation.

near Akhmatova’s grave and not far from the summer house given to
Anna Akhmatova in 1950s by Literary Fund. A. Belinsky is talking about
the time when the famous actress F. G. Ranevskaya stayed there and
Josef Brodsky was on visits. As long as the author of this TV program
didn’t know Akhmatova and, judging by the telecast, his acquaintance
with Brodsky was short, the film would be of doubtful value but for
the audio recordings of Akhmatova reciting her poems.

philosopher, liberalism theorist, expert on Turgenev,Tolstoj, Herzen,
professor of the Oxford University, president of the Brithish Academy,
holder of many honourable premiums and honourable titles. In the end
of 1945 Isaja Berlin came to Russia with diplomatic mission and got
aquianted with Anna Akhmatova and Boris Pasternak in Leningrad and
Moscow correspondingly. His memoirs of those meetings became the base
of talk, which came about in his house in Oxford in May – June of
the 1989.
